Global Search

Find anything across courses, lessons, paths, and discussions

OptiLearn's global search is always one keystroke away. Press +K (or Ctrl+K on Windows/Linux) from anywhere in the app to open the command palette.

What You Can Find

Global search looks across your entire institution:

  • Courses — by title, description, tags
  • Lessons — by lesson title (only within published lessons)
  • Learning Paths — by name and description
  • Categories — by name
  • Discussion threads — by thread title

Results are grouped by type and appear as you type.

Using the Command Palette

Open it

Press +K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux). You can also click the Search button in the top navigation.

Type your query

Start typing. Results update after 200ms — there's no Enter required.

Pick a result

Use arrow keys to navigate, then press Enter to open — or click with the mouse.

Close it

Press Esc to close without navigating.

Quick Navigation

When the palette is empty (no search term), you get a list of quick-nav shortcuts — one-click access to Dashboard, Courses, Catalogue, Learning Paths, Leaderboard, Analytics, and Settings. Use it as a faster sidebar.

Scope

Search respects your institution boundary — you'll only see content from your own institution. Published-only filtering applies:

  • Lessons must be published to appear
  • Archived courses don't appear
  • Private learning paths appear only if you have permission

Tips

  • Short queries win. "algebra" finds more than "algebra chapter 3 exercises".
  • Try different words. Search matches on course titles, descriptions, AND tags. If you know the tag, search for it.
  • Use it instead of browsing. It's almost always faster than clicking through the sidebar.
