Parent Portal Overview

What the parent portal is, who it's for, and how to access it

The OptiLearn parent portal gives you a window into your child's learning — the courses they're taking, the grades they've received, the live classes they've attended (and missed), the certificates they've earned. It's read-only by design: you can see everything but you can't act on your child's behalf.

This page covers the basics. Follow the links at the bottom for the rest of the parent guide.

Who the portal is for

The parent portal is for parent contacts — adults whose account in OptiCRM is linked to one or more children at the institution. Typically:

  • Parents and step-parents
  • Legal guardians
  • Sometimes grandparents or extended family who manage a child's education

If your account exists in OptiCRM but isn't marked as a parent type, or isn't linked to any children, the portal won't have much to show you. Talk to your school's admin office to fix the linkage — only they can adjust which children are attached to your account.

How to access it

You have two ways in:

1. The web portal at /parent

Go to learn.opticrm.app/parent in any browser, signed in to your account. You'll land on your parent dashboard with a selector for switching between linked children if you have more than one.

2. The mobile app

Install the OptiLearn mobile app from the App Store or Google Play, sign in with your usual credentials, and the app automatically shows you parent mode — a different bottom nav (Home / Children / Alerts / Me) designed for at-a-glance checking on the go.

See Parent mode for the mobile walkthrough.

What you can do in the portal

  • View every course your child is enrolled in, with progress bars
  • See every grade they've received, with score and pass/fail
  • Track their live class attendance
  • Browse the certificates they've earned
  • Switch between multiple children if you have more than one linked
  • Manage your own notification preferences for parent-only alerts

What you can't do

  • Enroll your child in a course
  • Take a lesson, quiz, or assignment for them
  • Submit assignments on their behalf
  • Add or remove children from your account
  • See other parents' children
  • See your child's private notes or bookmarks

The intent is observability without interference. If you want your child enrolled in a specific course, talk to your school's admin office — they have full enrollment tools and can enrol the child for you.

Note

Children can't see what their parent sees, and vice versa. Each side has their own login, dashboard, and notifications. Nothing you do in the parent portal touches your child's account.

Getting set up

The portal works as soon as your account exists in OptiCRM with the correct parent linkages. There's nothing to install on the web — visit /parent and you're in. For mobile, install the app and sign in.

If something doesn't look right — wrong child, missing child, no children at all — the fix is in OptiCRM. Contact your school's admin office.
