Earning Certificates

How certificates work and how to share them

When you complete a course (all lessons done), OptiLearn automatically issues a certificate. You don't need to request it.

Viewing Your Certificates

Click Certificates in the sidebar to see all your earned certificates. Each one shows:

  • Course name
  • Your name
  • Completion date
  • Certificate number
  • Mini preview of the certificate design

Opening a Certificate

Click any certificate card to see the full version in a dialog. You get options to:

  • Verify — Open the public verification page
  • Copy Link — Copy a shareable verification URL
  • Share — Use the native share dialog (mobile) or copy link (desktop)
  • Print / Save PDF — Browser print dialog, which lets you save as PDF

Sharing on LinkedIn

  1. Click Share on a certificate
  2. Copy the verification link
  3. Go to LinkedIn → Profile → Add Licenses & Certifications
  4. Fill in the course details
  5. Paste the verification URL as the Credential URL

Anyone who clicks the URL will see your certificate with a VERIFIED badge.

How Verification Works

Every certificate has a unique verification code. When someone visits the verification URL:

  1. OptiLearn looks up the certificate in the database
  2. Checks it hasn't been revoked or expired
  3. Shows the certificate with a Verified banner
  4. Displays your name, course, issue date, and certificate number

This is a public endpoint — no login required. Anyone in the world can verify your certificate.

Note

Verification works even without a login because the URL contains a cryptographically unique code. Guessing a valid code is practically impossible.

Revoked Certificates

If your institution revokes a certificate (e.g. due to academic misconduct), the verification page will show:

  • Invalid banner in red
  • Reason for revocation (if provided)
  • Date of revocation

Expiring Certificates

Some certificates have an expiry date (common for compliance/safety training). After expiration, verification shows the cert as expired. You'll need to retake the course to renew.

Certificate Numbers

Every certificate has a unique number like CERT-Z4X7D2AJ-H8QE. This is used as:

  • Display identifier (on the certificate)
  • Reference when asking support about a specific cert
  • Immutable — once issued, never changes
