What students can do in the OptiLearn mobile app

Everything you need as a student — course catalogue, lesson player, quizzes, assignments, certificates, notes, peer reviews, and progress — is in the mobile app. The only surfaces that stay web-only are instructor authoring (course builder, analytics dashboards, report builder) because they're inherently desktop workflows.

Bottom navigation

After signing in, you land on the home screen. The bottom nav has four tabs:

  • Home — your dashboard with continue-learning cards and a bell icon in the top-right for notifications
  • Learn — the catalogue and your enrolled courses
  • Reviews — your peer review queue (when you have any)
  • Me — profile, downloads, language, settings, sign out

(Parents see a different layout — see Parent mode.)

Browsing courses

The Learn tab has tabs across the top:

  • Catalogue — every published course your institution offers, with a search bar and filter chips for category and level. Tap a course card to open its landing page.
  • My Courses — your enrolled courses, with sub-tabs for Active, Completed, and Archived. The Active tab shows progress bars on every card.

Pull down on either tab to refresh. Tap the search icon to search inside the catalogue by title, description, or tag.

Course landing page

Tapping a course opens its landing page:

  • Hero banner with the course cover image
  • Course title + description
  • A big Continue button that jumps to the first uncompleted lesson
  • Full module + lesson list below, with icons showing lesson type and a check mark on lessons you've already completed
  • Lock icons on lessons your instructor has set to drip-release, with an "Unlocks in X days" caption

Preview lessons (the ones marked free) show a small "Preview" badge and can be opened without enrolling.

Lesson player

Every lesson type is supported with the same look and feel as the web.

Video lessons

Full-screen video player with:

  • Play / pause / seek
  • Speed control (0.5x / 1x / 1.25x / 1.5x / 2x)
  • Captions in the languages your instructor uploaded — tap the CC button to pick a language; your choice is remembered across lessons
  • Picture-in-picture — minimise the video into a floating window so you can use other apps while it plays
  • Resume from last position — start on mobile, finish on web; your position is synced

Below the video, a Transcript panel highlights the current caption and lets you tap any line to jump the video to that moment.

Text, PDF, quiz, assignment

All work the same as the web. Quiz answers and assignment submissions sync to the server immediately so you can switch devices mid-flow.

Notes and bookmarks

Tap the floating FAB (note icon) on any lesson to open the notes & bookmarks panel:

  • Notes — type free-form notes, optionally attached to the current video moment
  • Bookmarks — tap + Bookmark to save the current video position, with an optional label

Both lists also live in Me → Notes and Me → Bookmarks for cross-course aggregate views.

Peer reviews

When you're enrolled in a course with peer-assessed assignments, the Reviews tab in the bottom nav becomes active. It shows the same queue as the web's /peer-reviews page:

  • Tabs for To do / Submitted / Flagged
  • Tap any review to open the submission, score it against the rubric (or single score), write feedback, and submit
  • Anonymity is preserved end-to-end — you never see authors' names and they never see yours

See Peer reviews for the full how-to.

Notifications

Tap the bell icon on the Home AppBar to see your full notification list. The bell shows a red badge when you have unread items.

Push notifications also fire on your phone for:

  • Assignment graded — tap to jump directly to the graded work
  • Live class is live now / starting in 15 minutes
  • Live class recording available
  • New lesson published in a course you're in
  • Peer review assigned to you / your peer review complete
  • Certificate earned
  • Direct reply to your discussion post

You can turn each category on or off under Me → Settings → Notifications. Category-level control is global across web and mobile.

Profile editing

Tap Me → Profile to update your display name, profile photo, and bio. Your email and institution are read-only — those come from your school's admin office.

Language

Tap Me → Language to switch the app between English and हिन्दी. The app refreshes to apply the change. See Language for details.

Certificates

When you complete every lesson in a course, the app automatically issues a certificate. View all your certificates under Me → Certificates, tap one to see it full-screen, and use the Share button to send a verification link.

My stats

The Me tab shows your learning analytics:

  • Current streak (consecutive days with at least one lesson completed)
  • Total learning time this week / month
  • Courses in progress vs completed
  • Points earned (gamification)
  • Badges unlocked
  • Rank on your institution's leaderboard

What the app doesn't have

  • Instructor authoring — course builder, curriculum editor, and lesson authoring all stay on web
  • Analytics dashboards — read-only analytics work on the web's analytics page; the mobile app shows a simpler "my stats" view
  • Report builder — the Salesforce-style ad-hoc report builder is web-only
  • Admin screens — user management, institution settings, compliance records, the audit log — all web-only

Teachers and institution admins can still use the mobile app for their own learning — they just get the same student-side experience, not an instructor dashboard.
