Lesson Progress and Milestones
How OptiLearn tracks your progress, drip-released lessons, and the rewards along the way
OptiLearn tracks your progress through every course you're enrolled in — automatically. You don't need to mark anything by hand for most lesson types. This page covers what gets tracked, how locked lessons work, what milestones you'll hit, and what happens when you finish a course.
How progress is tracked
Each lesson type has its own completion rule:
| Lesson type | Counts as complete when… |
|---|---|
| Video | You've watched 90% or more |
| Text | You click Mark complete at the top of the lesson |
| You click Mark complete | |
| Quiz | You pass it (score ≥ passing score) |
| Assignment | Your instructor grades it as passing |
| Embed | You click Mark complete |
| Live session | You attend (or your instructor marks you present) |
Once a lesson is complete:
- A green check appears next to it in the curriculum sidebar
- Your course progress bar ticks up
- You earn points (default: 10 per lesson; your institution may configure this)
- Your learning streak for the day is preserved
Locked lessons (drip release)
Sometimes a lesson won't be available right away — your instructor has set it to release on a schedule. You'll see:
- A lock icon next to the lesson in the curriculum sidebar
- A small caption like "Unlocks in 5 days" or "Unlocks April 20"
- If you tap a locked lesson, a friendly placeholder tells you when it'll be ready instead of the lesson content
There are two flavours:
- After N days of enrollment — your personal clock; if you enrolled today, the "7-day" lesson unlocks 7 days from now
- On a specific date — everyone in the class unlocks at the same wall-clock time
When the unlock date passes, the lock disappears and the lesson works normally.
Drip is your instructor's way of pacing the course. It's not a paywall — you're not being charged extra to wait. The intent is usually to encourage steady progress instead of binge-watching.
Milestone celebrations
As you move through a course, you'll hit milestones at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% progress. Each one fires a small celebration notification — a friendly nudge that you're moving forward and a reminder of how much you've already done.
These appear in your bell menu and (if you've enabled push) on your phone. You can mute them in Settings → Notifications under "Progress milestones" if you'd rather not be celebrated, but most students find them motivating.
Course completion
When you complete every lesson in a course (every required lesson, anyway — optional lessons don't block completion), several things happen at once:
- Course status flips to Completed — visible in your My Courses page on the Completed tab
- You earn 100 bonus points (default; configurable per institution)
- A certificate is auto-issued — see Earning Certificates for what to do with it
- A badge check fires — you may unlock new badges depending on what you've completed across all courses
- Your enrollment is synced back to OptiCRM so your school's main system shows the completion
You'll get a celebration notification and an email (if enabled) the moment all of that happens.
Continuing where you left off
Don't worry about remembering which lesson you were on. The dashboard's Continue learning card shows your 3 most recent courses with a button that jumps straight to the next uncompleted lesson. Most of the time, that's the only navigation you need.
The lesson player also remembers your video position — pause at minute 14 on your laptop, open the same lesson on mobile, and it picks up at minute 14 there too.
Tips
- Check the Continue button. It saves you scrolling through the curriculum sidebar.
- Don't stress about locked lessons. They'll unlock on schedule. Use the time to revisit earlier lessons or take more thorough notes.
- Keep your streak. Even a short 5-minute lesson preserves your daily streak.
- Look at your milestones. Reaching 50% on a long course is a real accomplishment — let yourself feel it.
