Question Bank

Build a reusable pool of quiz questions

The Question Bank is a reusable library of quiz questions you can pull from when building quizzes across different courses. Instead of re-typing questions every time, you build a bank once and import from it.

Why use a question bank?

  • Reuse — Build once, use across many quizzes
  • Consistency — Same wording and answer key every time
  • Variety — Randomize questions from a larger pool
  • Organization — Group by subject, topic, difficulty, and tags

Creating a Bank

  1. Go to Settings → Question Bank in the sidebar
  2. Click + New Bank

In the dialog:

Name your bank

e.g. "Biology 101 Midterm Pool" or "Algebra Practice Questions"

Add description, subject, and topic (optional)

These help you find the bank later and keep banks organized by subject area.

Create

Click Create Bank. The bank appears on the list — click it to start adding questions.

Adding Questions

Open a bank and click + Add Question. The question form supports every type the quiz builder supports:

  • Multiple Choice (MCQ) — one correct answer
  • True / False — simple yes/no
  • Multi Select — one or more correct answers
  • Short Answer — exact-match text
  • Fill in the Blank — exact-match text
  • Essay — requires manual grading

Each question has:

  • Difficulty — Easy, Medium, or Hard
  • Points — How much it's worth when used in a quiz
  • Tags — Comma-separated, e.g. midterm, chapter-3, cellular
  • Explanation — Optional; shown to students after they answer
Note

Tags are the most underrated feature. Tagging questions well lets you filter and mix them when building quizzes.

Importing Into a Quiz

When editing a quiz lesson, scroll to the question list and click Import from Bank:

Select a bank

The dropdown shows every bank in your institution with its question count.

Pick questions

Check the ones you want. Use Select all to grab the whole bank.

Import

Click Import N questions. They're added to the quiz. You can still edit them, reorder them, or delete them after import — the import creates a copy.

Warning

Imports create a copy. If you edit the question in the quiz, the bank version doesn't change. If you edit the bank version, existing quizzes aren't updated.

Managing Questions

On the bank detail page, each question shows its type, difficulty, points, tags, and full option list. Click the trash icon to delete a question from the bank. This doesn't affect quizzes where the question was already imported.

Deleting a Bank

From the bank list, click the trash icon on a bank card. This deletes the bank and all its questions. Existing quizzes that imported questions from this bank are unaffected — their questions are independent copies.

Best Practices

  • One bank per topic. Keep banks focused. "Algebra" is better than "Math".
  • Write more questions than you need. A bank of 50 questions gives you variety across quizzes; a bank of 5 is barely a pool.
  • Tag aggressively. Future-you will thank past-you when you need to find every "photosynthesis" question across multiple banks.
  • Include explanations. Students learn more when they see why an answer was right or wrong.
